How is the monte carl hotel and casino?

monte hotel
Rome asked:

I was looking at the promo codes that you all gave me and I found a good one just recently for the monte carlo. So I am wondering is it a good place to stay at if you are just going to be there for sleeping, some gambling and pool time? or should I just stick to the cheap tropicana which I liked for like I said it is just to sleep and go out.

The Monte Carlo is a very nice place to stay. It is very laid back and relaxing. Great location, puts you in the center of the strip. The Trop is a good place just to sleep and it has a good pool area. Also if you plan on taking a shuttle to other places, most shuttles use the Trop parking lot for drop off and pick up. The rooms at Monte Carlo are way better than the Trop and the entire property is much nicer.

If the choice is between Monte Carlo and the Tropicana, I will go with the Monte Carlo. The rooms are nice and the have great rates at the moment.

Ugh. I am totally not a whiner (normally) but I’ll make an exception for the Monte Carlo. We went last May and it was awful! The ventilation was so bad I had trouble breathing every time I stepped in the door. The A/C in our room wasn’t working – they came up and said it isn’t really A/C but more like a swamp cooler. They changed the filter but it had no effect, the room was stifling for all 3 days we were there. Plus the construction left the outside so dusty it was hard to see out the windows. We tried to order room service several times but no one ever answered the phone. I will say that the pool was great – loved the wave pool & lazy river! I personally wouldn’t stay there again – even after I wrote a letter of complaint I never got any response back from them so it didn’t seem as if they could care less. If you’ve had a good time at the Tropicana I’d advise you to go back to where you know you’ll enjoy your stay. You can also get some amazing rates at other hotels right now – I’ve seen great hotels listed for $65/night so do a little research and you could get a fabulous room! Enjoy your visit. :-)

It’s okay. A little too “mally” for me.

It depends on when you are going, but there are some great rates right now. I am going for july 4th and staying through the 8th. I am staying at the paris and paid $130 for sat. night and $60 a night for sun, mon, and tuesday. Mgm also has some good deals right now. Go to smartervegas.com for the best rates and promos.

    Rooms~
You will be very pleased! They are traditional and a little on the plush, lavish side. Nice furniture, comfy beds and a great view if you can get a room facing the strip. The rooms are clean with good maid service. Hotel is very easy to navigate, which means that you can actually find the EXIT sign! And they have a food court.

    Gambling~
It’s not a casino that rowdy drunks would feel at home in. It’s a crowd that knows how to have a good time but doesn’t want to look stupid in the process. The casino level of the hotel is above average but a little bland. It’s not the”Vegas tackiness” that some people really do enjoy. It is elegant and nice. It’s never really overcrowded but not empty either. Drink service is slow. Service was friendly and helpful. Low limits and lots of different games.

Pools~ Four pools! There is a wave pool and a lazy river. It’s the kind of pool that is used for swimming and not for looking pretty! Very fun!

Tropicana and Monte Carlo are not very comparable. M.C. is much nicer and more elegant. Trop is old and outdated. Monte Carlo is a hotel that could probably charge more for the rooms, which means you get a bargain because you also get high quality. I would compare Monte Carlo to New York New York or Treasure Island as far as star rating and quality.

    Have Fun!

The Monte Carlo was our favorite place to stay but not now. The Citys Center construction took care of that. The pool area was great with a wave pool, a waterfall and a lazy river. But now they have built that massive structure right up to the wall behind the pool area and it makes it feel claustrophobic. The construction with it’s noise and scaffolding is annoying, too. Shame really, this was a great place before. The also closed the tram that connected it with Bellagio.

Perhaps when the City Center project is complete I will revisit my old favorite. But I cannot honestly recommend it now.
