I usually tips when I pickup the luggage before heading to airport. Am I right or wrong? Should I also tips when I am leaving the luggage to the bell boy? It happened last week when I was checking out at Treasure Island, and the bell boy asked(used his body language) for tips (he stood there and open his hand)but it never happened before when I was staying at other hotels like Mandalay Bay, Monte Carlo, MGM, etc. Pls let me know was I supposed to tips I don’t want to be cheap if I supposed to tip I don’t really mind about the tipping money but I just wanna know what’s appropriate and what’s not. And when should I tip or not? Thanks for your advice in advance!
Is it appropriate for a bell boy asks you for tips when you are leaving the luggage?
Monday asked:

Yes weather the bell boy is bringing you your luggage or taking it from you they are still doing the same amount of work. And it’s not guaranteed you will have the same bell boy you had when you arrived. So you should tip both times.
However, Its weird he held his hand out.. haha
It’s like I prefer to give homeless people money when they don’t ask vs. when they beg me for it. Well I guess that is different ..but oh well.
It is appropriate to tip when the bellhop brings the items to your room.
However, it is inappropriate for a bellhop to openly solicit a tip. Often they will stand until they receive a tip or that it is obvious they wont receive one, but they should never put their hand out.
Maybe it was a reflex, as in most people get out their tip when the bellhop brings up their bags.
But he should definitely have been more discreet.
many a service employee has been fired for less!
No. He should never ask for tips!>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
hell no you shouldn’t give him **** 4 having the balls to hood wink u
You tip the bell boy when you pick up your luggage from the bell desk not when you drop it off.
It would be different if you called and had the bell boy come to your room, pick up your luggage and hold it at the bell desk for you. In that case I do feel that a tip would be appropriate.

It is not appropriate for anyone to ask for tips. The standard tip is $1 per bag but they also receive a standard salary. I would contact the TI and report the issue, even if you did not know the name of the bellboy. They would not want their guests “panhandled.”
I been around the hotel/casino business all my life and it is very inappropriate to not tip the bell boy (unless the service was really awful. However it is considered businesslike for him to ask. 3-10 dollars is about right depending on how much work the person does. Most people in the casino business live entirely off money from tips. That is why it bothers them so much to cross the line and ‘remind’ you of tipping even though it may cost them thier job.
As someone else said, you do not tip when dropping luggage off at the bell stand. When you go to pick it up and the bags are put in your cab/limo/etc then you tip.
