monte hotel
Mr. LOL asked:

Palms————440square feet–$105
Rio—————–600square feet–$81
Monte Carlo—-400square feet–$89
MGM————–550square feet–$129

I’m torn between MGM and Rio

I’m going with my elderly aunt and my little brother. Not much gambling or night life. Mostly light gambling, sight seeing and going to shows.

I’m leaning towards MGM

I have been to Las Vegas. It is really fun. If I had to choose from those hotels I would stay at Rio because it is the biggest of the four and it is also the cheapest and that is a good deal. But all of those hotels are good.

I really liked the MGM Grand. We go there all the time on vacation and we usually stay at the MGM or Mandalay Bay. (p.s. I know it’s the most expensive but the rooms are really nice and the staff is very friendly).

I’ve stayed at all of these hotels. Although MGM is the most expensive it’s also the best. The rooms are nice and clean and very easy to find. there are guards at every hallway so you know where to get directions and your belongings are safe. Also, there is a “train” that goes above the hotel but it is very quite, it doesn’t disturb you at all. And if you’re going with your little brother and your aunt then it is the best choice. it has tons and tons of stuff to do for the young and the old. They have a variety of amazing restaurants and gift shops. Also, you never have to leave because everything is already there.

MGM has over 5,000 rooms, Rio has 2,500.

MGM has a much larger casino than Rio and much better location for walking the strip.

I stayed at Monte Carlo in 2003, would not go back; it’s too much like a generic Holiday Inn or Motel 6.

Palms is too much of a party atmosphere for an elderly aunt. Especially with that new Playboy Fantasy tower they have.

It’s a tough choice. Based on the size of the properties I think MGM will have poorer customer services and be more impersonal than Rio; but Rio is significantly less expensive; but MGM has a significantly better location. You can easily walk to NY NY, Luxor, Tropicana, Excalibur and Mandalay Bay to the south or Planet Hollywood, Paris, Bally’s to the north.

I think your decision should be mainly based on whether you want to be on the strip or not. MGM is at the intersection (Tropicana & LV Blvd) that has the most hotel rooms in the world. It’s hectic and crowded but also convenient. Rio is a mile off the strip and almost secluded in comparison to MGM.

The Monte Carlo would be the best. It is more laid back and relaxed. The MGM is so large that it takes forever to get to and from your room. The Rio and the Palms are too far off the strip and unless you have a car it is not easy to get around. Palms also is too young of a party crowd. Monte Carlo sounds like the best for your situation.

i like them all but my favorite hotel i have stayed at was the venetian, i got a 1,000 square feet room for only $300 a night, and it is a five diamond resort, i was expecting to pay 2,000 on the bill but i spent under my budget

First of all, those prices seem very high, are you going on a weekend?
I may have showed you this before, but here are cheap rates… the cheapest out there

Anyway, being torn between those two, I would probably go with the MGM Grand. It is in an excellent location on the strip, and the fact that it is only 50 square feet smaller than the suite at Rio, that’s pretty enticing.

Sight seeing is also convenient from there because you are at one end of the strip, so you can just walk down the MGM Grand side of the strip to Venetian, and then cross the street and walk back on the other side. You can step into each hotel or attraction along the way and see a lot. I just say that it’s convenient because if you were in center strip (the free shuttle from Rio would drop you off center strip), you would have to choose which direction to go for sight seeing. I know it sounds silly, but it makes sense.

Something I noticed, though, which room at MGM Grand has 550 square feet? Here is what it shows on the website, starting from least expensive…
    Grand Tower 446 sq ft
    West Wing 350 sq ft
    Bungalow Suites 675 sq ft
Celebrity Spa Suite 694 sq ft

there are more, but I know they are more than $129/night. Unless you are talking about The Signature at MGM Grand. If that is the case, I would definitely choose MGM because those rooms are gorgeous. They are like your own Vegas condo.

As you can tell, I recommend MGM Grand.

I have to agree that for you, your elderly aunt and little brother, the Monte Carlo is the best bet. The Palms and Rio are not on the Stirp. MGM is but it is way too large. Too easy to loose a youngster there and difficult for seniors to do all that walking. Just the walk from the front desk to your room can take 10 minutes.

The Monte Carlo is moderately sized, has a more calm feel and a more sedate crowd. The swimming pool is nice, too. It has a wave pool and a lazy river and waterfall. There is a food court with mall style eateries besides fine and moderate restaurants. The casino is nice and open enough that you do not feel crowded or confined and it is not smokey.

There is a definite upscale feel to Monte Carlo that is nice without being pretentious.

They are all over priced in my opinion. of the ones you’ve mentioned I’d go with the Rio due to the larger all suite rooms. The better values on rooms are usually at Monte Carlo & New York, New York. And if you want a really good deal on a high rise hotel, check out The Orleans next door to the Rio where tower rooms are often as low as $49 and are pretty nice. Good Luck!
