We are a group of 8-10 people in our mid-20′s going for one friend’s birthday in mid May. We are planning on going out drinking, plus some shopping and gambling. These 2 hotels have close to the same price when I looked up our flight packages. any suggestions on which is better, including location?

Monte-Carlo is more “classy” and cleaner
Luxor is more family oriented
Well….they’re both decent hotels. I’ve always gone out there with the mindset that my hotel room is just somewhere to pass out and then shower between drinking binges…I don’t pay attention to all the ‘frills’ and so-called ‘amenities’.
BUT…To answer your question to its fullest without my own PERSONAL opinion involved:
Luxor is located between Mandalay Bay and Excalibur – it’s a decent location for riding the tram late at night back and forth while drunk…without having to give up precious DRINK money for a cab. But, it IS at the northern end of the strip; while not being ISOLATED, it is the next to last hotel at this end of the strip.
The Monte Carlo is nice and is located between the New York New York and a lot in which they’re doing construction – yet it is across the street from Showcase Mall and near the MGM Grand.
While I’ve never stayed there myself, I’ve heard nothing but positive things about both these Resorts.
I would say your best bet would be to go to the Las Vegas Tourism Website and research it from there.
They have interactive maps on there where you can narrow down parts of the strip to show you Hotels/Casinos/Resorts that have Nightclubs, Entertainment, Shopping, and the like. It’s very informative.
Put a dollar on 13 black and throw back a few dirty martinis for me while you’re out there!

The Monte Carlo is a great choice. The rooms are very nice. They have a Brew Pub where they make their own line of flavored beers and a root beer. It’s a great hang out and dance spot too.
The restaurants are great. The show there is by Lance Burton the magician and it’s worth seeing. The slot club is great because they have a free slot tournament everyday where the winner gets $500 (you don’t use any money to play at all). The pool is very nice as well.
Monte Carlo is also in a little better location than the Luxor. It’s in between the New York New York and Bellagio. Paris is across the street.
Monte C and Luxor are both part of the same hotel chain though.
Monte Carlo rooms are standard average rooms, Luxur is better because the hotel is great right when you step out of your room, the whole casino and lobby is under you. I have stayed in both, and I personally did not like them but if I had to choose I would choose Luxur. For a big group Venetian is the best, the rooms are awesome and the service is great.
monte carlo, hands down
