Monte Gordo is a village in the Algarve region. I think Navegadores is a nice hotel, not far away from the beach (10 min walk). It`s situated in a good area, close to shops, bars, good restaurants. Go to that should give you the info you want. The beach is very nice.

    Hello there
The Dos Navegadores has been a popular hotel with the British for many many years. I also think that it’s very unfair of the person here who said that Montegordo was boring- In my experience the Algarve is beautiful and very varied. There are busier and quieter resorts and the whole area has something for everyone!

Here are 2 reviews about the hotel Dos Navegadores for you from trip advisor. The first is positive and the second one is negative- You can check out the rest of the 20 something reviews here…

    Heres the positive one…

“After reading some of the previous comments, We were concerned with what we may find at this Hotel for our Christmas stay. Yes it does look plain from the outside, inside it is a very large Hotel offering lots of facilities. The bedrooms are spacious with good bathrooms, and there was always hot water available at any timne of the day, we have never stayed in such a clean hotel. The maid came everyday including Christmas Day to leave us fresh towels and to tidy the bedroom and bathroom. There were cleaners working in all parts of the hotel every day. The food was pleasant only a couple of choices for dinner but all the food was served up at the proper temperatures and the area kept clean and tidy. The breakfast was good, not your usual fry up, but healthy food and you could take food in to the restaurant if you wanted anything different. The staff were very friendly especially the manager who came every day and chatted to the guests. The only downfall we had was not to do with the Hotel but with the Cosmos rep who spent all his time at his wifes hotel down the road.”

    And the negative….

“without doubt this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. the first impression that greets you is the overwhelming smell of fish, this continues throughout the hotel. the entire place is so basic that it is unbelievable it is a hotel. if you are thinking of going to monte gordo, which is a lovely place, stay at the Vasco de Gama hotel, a three star the same as the navegadaroes but far far superior.
The stairs leading down to the dining room are covered by a stained carpet, and this leads you into a “dining room” which would not be out of place in the poorest youth hostel. The food had to be seen to be believed, whilst we were not expecting english we did expect hot food that we could eat. We took to eating out at lunchtime and only having soup and bread in the hotel. The soup for the entire duration of our holiday – 11 days – was pea soup, and unless you were down at the start was only lukewarm. The rep did say that we had paid a cheap price and got a cheap hotel but I do not consider 1100.00 a cheap price for 11days, Cosmos offered to move us to another area at a cost of 530e but we did not think that was a bargain! to make matters worse building work was going on opp the hotel from 7.30am – 7.30pm 6 days a week – so we asked to be moved to the 8th floor so the workmen were not looking into our room – using the balcony or opening the window was out of the question due to the noise.”

If I were you, I’d bear in mind what everyone is saying and make up your mind according to price :-)

Whatever you do, I hope you have a lovely time!

All the very best of luck.

Hi!! Monte Gordo is nice, and I’m sure the hotel is good too. Almost all the classified hotels in the Algarve are of good quality so don’t worry. Xeq out my Blog for more info on the Algarve and great links that may include this hotel!

I would take the point made by another contributor who knows Monte Gordo and suggested avoiding it. The Algarve is a very varied region, so you should be sure to hire a car and get around it a bit – from west to east along the coast at least, even if not much inland. I found Albufeira overrun with foreign residents and visitors. The region west of it, from there towards Lagos, has small hotels and apartment blocks used as much by Portuguese holiday-makers as foreigners, and a very pretty coastline. If you are not specially looking for a beach holiday, Faro itself could be a starting point – a charming town with plenty of accommodation on offer in the southern suburbs, looking down over a narrow coastal plain. In September, there should be good availability of hotels in most parts of the region. You could even leave some nights open, and just stop and ask about rooms anywhere that you specially like the look of. Boa viagem!

I go to Monte Gordo every year, for the last 20+ years!! It’s the best place for me in the whole Algarve (I’m not rich!!) Not so many Brits around, better food, cheaper than the “fashionable” Albufeira etcc……. and an added bonus, really important for me: the sea water is the warmest of the whole country!! Another one: the strip of sand is very extended, km and km of fine, golden sand!
