D asked:
I’m getting a package deal for flight, hotel, car….and cant choose the hotel. They are all relatively teh same price….but what is the most comfortable. We are not HUGE gamblers so would want to go more for a fun/clean/cool atmosphere. A nice pool would be nice too. I know caesars and the bellagio are the bomb…but those are way to expensive. My choices are ones like luxor, riviera, monte carlo, excalibur, rio all suite. I have no idea…..anything would be helpful!

the wynn is really nice and its affordable…and pools are really nice as well but im directionally challenged so i could never find the elevators to get up to my room….i allways had to stay by my friends because they remembered….lol
i live in Vegas and the palms is nicest hotel, but its also the most expensive. that’s where most of the celebrities go.
I would choose Luxor but perhaps you can get also MGM or Mandalay? These hotels are really great IMO. I would also consider to book air and hotel seperately. In my experience you get a better price then. For air I recommend to check kayak.com and has some really good promotion codes offers.
As a local let me give my “biases”
Rio is nice but NOT on Strip but great gambling areas and food. Across street from Palms & Gold Coast (locals)
Riveria is old and not near the kool palces
Excalibur is average but like Monte Carlo and Luxor near lots of other casinos — Mandalay Bay, NYNY, MGM Grand, Tropicana
I loved the rooms isn the pyrmaid, wild shape and weird elevator ride (slow but fun). Have not stayed at Monte Carlo but prefer their gambling area and a nice pool.
Take the one with the best deal because you won’t spend that much time in the room.
I have stayed at Rio, Monte Carlo, and the Venetian
They are all great in their own way for strip hotels. I have also stayed at the Golden Nugget which is downtown. Downtown is not the safest place after dark.
If you want to stay on strip i would say so far the best i stayed was MGM. they have the best pool in vegas. Over 5 acres of pool area, like 4-5 different pools with a huge lazy river that circulates threw it. awesome party area.
Palms is really cool, but small. If you stay at palms request your room at Palms Place the new tower. Its exceptional. My sis and I stayed there when she came down and we were the nerds that were screaming when we opened the door. Its freakin awesome.
Luxor is the biggest pile of **** i ever stayed at. Mold in the shower broken lamps and broken a/c units. Nothing fancy, not even a bath tub. i would say their property is cool, but the rooms are freakin ghetto
i would say pick something in close proximity to the strip. MGM, ny ny, paris, planet hollywood.
The Palazzo’s rooms were AMAZING, but unless you can get a good deal on them, they are really expensive. I’ve stayed at Luxor too, its a pretty interesting place, the pyramid rooms were kind of old but still good for a few nights. When i was there last summer there was tons of construction in the atrium which was really loud when you were down there, but impossible to hear in the rooms, just thought I’d let you know in case you’re bothered by it.
For location, out of the hotels you listed Monte Carlo is probably the best because its right in the center of the strip while Luxor and Excalibur are pretty far south. Riviera is really far up north—TONS of walking to get to/from it.
Monte Carlo and Luxor offer the best value in Vegas, either one is fine with slight advantage to Monte Carlo due to it’s location.
I would stay in the Monte Carlo area, so the MC or Mandalay Bay, or Luxor. I don’t like Excalibur because I think it is too crowded on the elevators and their corridors are too long and scary. That being said, I would go for price in that area. Not Rio or Palms only because they are not on the strip, and not Riviera because you can get stuck in a not so good room, and not downtown because it is not the safest place at night (relatively speaking). So pick the best price in the Monte Carlo area.
go to montecarlo! post this website you are getting all of those packages from!
My favourite hotel is The Luxor. Plenty to do within the hotel for non-gamblers. Also The Luxor is connected two ways to Excalibur, and Mandalay Bay. You can take either the free tram, or the moving walkways. Between these three hotels you have shopping, an aquarium, shows and many dining options. For trips up the strip, head across to MGM Grand and catch the Vegas Monorail.
Contrary to how some people feel. I love the location of The Luxor. That end of the Strip is very safe at all hours. Partly because Excalibur, Luxor, Mandalay Bay, and across the street, New York New York, attract a lot of families.
If you do decide on The Luxor, you might like the Tower rooms best right now. The hotel is still undergoing renovation, and the Pyramid rooms are the last to get done. I love The Pyramid rooms even though the tower rooms are brighter, bigger, and have more amenities. I’m not in my room much, and I just love the view looking into the Pyramid. Also, as a woman, I also like the extra safety feature of being in “open hallways”. Also, if you stay in the Pyramid, be sure to get a room above the 5th floor… At night any room under floor 5 vibrates a bit from the LAX nightclub on the attractions level.
Rio is too far off for me. The Riviera shows it’s age. I would not choose it, unless you’re going for that “Classic Vegas” vibe.
One word of warning… It’s not on your list. But, stay away from The Stratosphere. This Strip hotel often has the cheapest rates of any major hotel, on the Strip… With good reason. It’s in a dodgy location, and at night it’s really creepy.
